Doggie Disaster

Is a single player, 3D, isometric, stealth game where you play as a Shiba Inu on the hunt for runaway dog friends. Use your stealth abilities to avoid Pet Control on your quest to find all the missing Dogs!

My Role

This project is a school project I did with my team for term 3. It's called a "Term Project" as we only had one term to develop the game, and I am the programmer for this project. I programmed everything the team needed, and ensured that the entire game is developed. My artist is not a 2D artist, so I took upon the role of 2D artist to create icons for the team as well.

As the programmer, there were a lot of things I needed to take into account when brain storming. A lot of other teams were thinking of ideas that were hard to implement, whereas my team had a harder time thinking of the specifics on our ideas. Because I programmed the entire game, I had to communicate with the level designer and artist a lot to ensure that everything was in the game. I was really thankful for both of them for all the hard work we did together, and the time they took out of their breaks to make sure everything was flawless.

Implementing the AI was something I was not used to, and this project was my first go at such a task. There were a lot of things I learned from this project, and a lot of things I'd change if I have the opportunity to. I used a lot of coroutines to get the effect I wanted, which was also an eye opener for someone like me who used to only use programming to solve puzzles.

Although I was used to programming C#, I was not as comfortable with Unity besides the basics. Through this project, I learned a lot about things you could program with Unity, and also what documentation to read if I want to find results I want. This was my first time integrating a HUD into a game, and I learned a lot about programming this in. It was so much fun that, if possible, I wanted to focus on this once I started my final project.
