Bard is Broke

Description

Play as a broke Bard who fell from fame and realizes three days before their rent is due that they are low on money. The stage is yours in Tavern de Uniteus where you will have to perform music through a Rhythm Game feature to earn money. Interact and even date one of your lucky (and wealthy) fans in the audience to learn more about themself, the world beyond the tavern, or even to get help paying rent. Earn enough money by the end of the third night so that you may pay rent and not be kicked out into the streets.

My Role

For this project, I was the UI/UX Programmer and Designer. I started this project off as the sole Project Manager, however as a Programming student, I got one of the game designers on our team to Co-PM along with me.

With a lot of UI needed for this project, I first started with a base. I needed to understand all the components and basic layout the team wanted, and implement it as soon as possible. This was because we needed a working prototype within a couple of weeks. I created separate components and added them to our Gameplay Programmer's base, allowing the rhythm game to be functional. At this point, I did not have any UI art; we just needed the prototype to work.

After everything was somewhat functional and more design has been created, I decided to make the notes falling feel better for the player. To do this, I was doing calculations using trigonometry for world space, as well as conversion between time and world units. It was really fun doing this, and I managed to program this to change depending on the speed of the notes falling.

With the finishing touches, I worked on helping give more feedback to the players. This included visual effects, UI ques, and bug fixes to make sure the game flowed. I was heavily involved in each part of the game, as every aspect needed some UI. It was a lot of fun working with my team, and creating a game in genres that I love.
